Thierry Dalais completed degrees in accounting and commerce at the University of the Witwatersrand and served articles at Deloitte, qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1984. Mr. Dalais was then employed in trade financing activities with Merchant Shippers, a subsidiary of Merhold Investment Corporation Ltd. In 1987, he was appointed director of Merhold Corporate Ltd where he developed and managed a successful principal investment program in the corporate advisory services business for the group, now Sabvest.
In 1991, Mr. Dalais founded Capital Partners with Antony Ball. In 1998 the business merged with the investment banking interests of Capital Alliance Holdings which was renamed Brait. Mr. Dalais also served as executive deputy chairman of Brait, Key man and Principal in its private equity funds, chairman of its advisory group and on all the group’s investment committees. Thierry led the formulation of investment policy and transaction structuring at Brait and has extensive experience in banking, corporate finance, private equity investing and general counsel to entrepreneurs in South Africa and abroad.
During 2003, Mr. Dalais relinquished his full-time executive responsibilities at Brait but continued to support certain of the Brait Private Equity investment programs as Key man and Principal until 30 June 2004. He thereafter co founded Metier a private equity investment and advisory firm of which he is today Executive Chairman. Mr. Dalais also acts as trustee, director on the boards of a number of private and public companies and foundations. He is married to Penny; they have four children and live in Johannesburg.
