Global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) has invested about MYR642 million (approximately US$200.8 million) for a substantial minority stake in Malaysia-based Weststar Aviation Services, provider of offshore helicopter and transportation services to the oil and gas industry. The transaction was structured through KKR Asian Fund II. Weststar intends to use the capital injection to expand its reach overseas. In a separate deal, KKR has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Serbia-based broadband operator SBB/Telemach Group from Mid Europa Partners, a private equity firm focused on Central Europe and Turkey. The exit reportedly provides Mid Europa with 3x cash on cash blended return on its investment through two funds. Financial details of the transaction, which is subject to customary approvals and is expected to close by the first quarter of 2014, were not disclosed.
